        Comments:

I had this same poster hanging in my office for ten years. When I recently retired, I wanted to re-mat it and hang it at home. When I removed the mat, I discovered that due to lack of UV protection in the glass, the poster had faded. Because I love the image, I reordered it. [...] It is now hanging in my home. I love the image...it's like falling into a dream of Paris at dawn.

            Product Information

Brassai (born Gyula Halasz, 1899 – 1984) was a groundbreaking photographer whose work took viewers through Paris’ brothels and pubs, as well its enchanted side, depicted in “Les Escaliers de Montmartre, Paris.” Dedicated to alternative photography, Brassai also shot Paris’ graffiti. A regular contributor to Harper’s Bazaar for 25 years who was given complete creative freedom, Brassai also published 25 books and contributed to various magazines.

This art print displays sharp, vivid images with a high degree of color accuracy. A member of the versatile family of art prints, this high-quality reproduction represents the best of both worlds: quality and affordability. Art prints are created on paper similar to that of a postcard or greeting card using an offset lithography press.

            About the Artist

Originally born as Gyula Halasz, (1899 – 1984), Brassai enjoyed photographing the Parisian streets at night to capture the lives of prostitutes, gays, lesbians and those who gathered in pubs and brothels. Eventually, he began a 25 year association with Harper’s Bazaar after the editor gave him absolute freedom to choose his own subjects. His alternative approach to photography also inspired him to shoot Paris’ wall graffiti. Famous artists such as Pablo Picasso, Henri Miller and Georges Braque all collected Brassai’s work.
